Spring/ Summer 1998 by MATIN ZAD
Spring/ Summer 1998 is a collection of images made when Matin was 11 years old and was intrigued with fashion design. His grandmother was a seamstress and he would love to watch Fashion Television in Toronto with her each night. He eventually decided to design his own collection using his mothers imperfect pantyhose and leggings and went to town on his barbies.
he decided to document each look after he was pleased with the final result with a disposable camera and used their kitchen and a simple blue paper as the backdrop (also his first forte into photography). What one doesn’t see behind each barbie LOTS of pins and elastic bands to keep things in place. The images were hidden under his bed for years out of shame/ embarrassment but once those feelings were overcome, he revived them with this self produced book.
Matin Zad is an artist, and lives and works in New York City, we have often worked with Matin on shooting the salon spaces we have occupied, we love working with Matin
